Music Video Production Process

Production Process

Eh List Entertainment's music videos are director driven, and as such bands and their representatives meet with one of our highly imaginative and experienced directors to discuss concepts for the video. Once an idea has been nailed down, the director drafts up a blow by blow treatment of the music video, which is distributed amongst the band and it's reps for approval.

One of our producers is then brought in to oversee the production, preparing a budget. At this time a storyboard artist works with the director, sketching out each shot of the video. These storyboards are then digitized and edited to the bands song, creating an accurate representation of what the finished product will look like.

Both the storyboard and the budget are submitted to the band and their reps. for them to sign off on, once the green light has been given the location scout comes aboard and starts getting sites in order.

During this time the producer hires the rest of the production's crew: cinematographer, production manager, camera, grip, gaffer, electric, etc.

The director meanwhile will be working with our in house casting director to find the perfect actors for any feature roles and to round out the extras needed.

The next step is to go in front of the cameras and turn the storyboards into reality. Generally a music video is shot over the course of one or two days, as experienced commercial crews are trained to turn out high quality shots in half the time of other productions.

The video then moves into post production, where the producer and director work with one of our editors, visual effects artists, and graphics artists to put all of the elements together. A rough edit of the video is presented to the band and its representatives which is then discussed. Any changes that are requested are made and a finished video is packaged.

Depending on the final destination of the music video, Eh List Entertainment can author a DVD for the video, encode it for use on the web, or prepare it for broadcast.

The entire process can take as little as three weeks depending on the complexities of the video.
